Mike Carroll’s Profile
Mike Carroll, The Unbreakable.
Michael John Carroll. Born to Jack and Barbara Carroll of Pittsburgh, PA. The Steel City. The City of Bridges. The City of Champions.
Bred from a tradition of hard work and dedication, Mike has participated in many various sports throughout his life, playing mostly in hockey, volleyball, track, and most recently football and softball.
In high school, Mike was one of the top-ranked high-hurdlers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, but did not continue that event in college. Instead, he discovered a delectable beverage called “beer”, and participated in student government and “classes”. The combination of these activities decreased Mike’s sports participation to simply intramurals, but his dedication to such activities as “beer pong”, and “flip cup” kept his fervor for competition strong. While studying in Leeds, UK, he played for the University’s volleyball team, and his team sports began anew. Today, Mike is a three-sport athlete. Playing both indoor and beach volleyball, softball, and playing (flag) Football for Penn State (DC Alumni).
Through all of these sports, Mike has never lost his competitive edge (even though he didn’t always win the match). As the late, great Steve Prefontaine famously stated, “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the Gift”. A mantra that Mike lives each day trying to follow. If you’re not doing what you want to do with passion, why bother doing it?
A passion which Mike brings into this Dickathlon, both with the desire to win, and with the ability to produce stories and memories with his buddy Steve in which to share with the masses for their general entertainment of their (small, but) meaningful achievements.
May the best man win, and may the better man enjoy his Scotch. Mmmm, Scotchy Scotch Scotch.
